HOW DOES CULTURAL DECOR INFLUENCE A RESTAURANT'S ATMOSPHERE?

Location: Portland

Program: Restaurant

  • CALLE VEINTIUNO is not just a restaurant; it's a cultural bridge that brings authentic Mexican flair to Portland. Nestled in the heart of the city, this restaurant showcases Mexican art and traditions through its decor and design elements such as vibrant colors, murals, and distinctive wooden frameworks. From the bar to the dining area, every corner is meticulously crafted to offer not just a meal, but a visual and sensory feast that immerses patrons in Mexican culture.

  • The challenge lies in creating a space that reflects the rich culture of Mexico while catering to the needs of the Portland market. The restaurant needs to balance providing an intimate and comfortable dining experience with sound management and adapting to varying outdoor dining conditions due to weather.

  • The design solution includes installing a lattice-like wooden framework above the bar area, which serves not only as a decorative display for bottles but also incorporates lighting to enhance the aesthetic appeal. The seating area features a decorative acoustic ceiling to minimize noise and enhance dining comfort. The walls are adorned with bright Mexican colors and murals to create a unique atmosphere. Additionally, the restaurant offers adaptable outdoor seating for various weather conditions and private booths using high-quality acoustic materials, providing guests with a luxurious and intimate gathering space.
