CAN WE BLEND MODERNITY AND CULTURE IN LOS ANGELES' VIBRANT FROGTOWN?

Location: Frogtown, Los Angeles, California

Program: Single-Family Residence

Area: 1,200ft² (120m²)

Status: Completed

  • Our project, the Rich Street residence, is not just a housing project, but an homage to the historic Frogtown section of Los Angeles. Here, the creativity of artists, the authentic flavors of Los Angeles, and the long history of the Frogtown area and LA River are at your fingertips.

  • The main challenge was integrating a design that is modern yet traditional, fitting the community's vibe while maintaining its uniqueness and connection to the nearby LA River. We aimed to create a home that satisfies the contemporary lifestyle while reflecting Los Angeles' historical essence and providing outdoor connections to the parks and bike/walking paths surrounding the LA River.

  • Our design team meticulously crafted this residence combining modern and traditional elements. The clean lines of the house contrast sharply with the nearby traditional sloped roofs. The rooftop terrace offers sweeping views of the Los Angeles River, the north end of Griffith Park, and nearby surrounding areas. Here, it's not just a place to live, but a haven for the outdoor soul—one with access to nearby restaurants, theaters, and hiking paths. Our goal was to create a residence that provides both connection and respite from the outdoors, while providing a beautifully functional indoor environment that is both comfortable and contemporary.
