The Hall Residence, a modern single-family residence located in Hollywood Hills, California, aims to combine flexible interior spaces with the unique outdoor climate of Southern California.

The design team faced the challenge of developing a sustainable and ecofriendly solution that can maximize the small yet fl exible interior space while minimizing site excavation and costly earthwork compaction.

Inspired by the industrial character of Southern California’s sea ports, the team used cargo shipping containers to develop a design that showcased sustainable building principles. The result is a balanced, harmonious building that allows a reworking of challenging site conditions into a sustainable home with a unique design aesthetic.
